About our charities
Make the point is first and foremost a fun run, all be it across some pretty testing terrain, but its reason for happening at all is in support of two wonderful charities. Even if you can't join us to run or walk our beautiful route take time to read the below and consider helping the charities in your own way.
CHICKS is a national children's charity that provides free week-long respite breaks for disadvantaged children from across the UK — children that live in poverty, suffer abuse, are young carers or bereaved. The children enjoy a week long break at one of our retreats in Devon, Cornwall or Derbyshire. A CHICKS break inspires new confidence and gives children the chance to have fun, try new things and form positive childhood memories.
Every year 1,000 babies are sent home from hospital with an undetected life-threatening heart condition. Tragically, many of these conditions will not be detected until it is too late. Early detection of congenital heart defects in babies greatly improves their chances of survival – and this is where Tiny Tickers comes in.
Tiny Tickers is a national charity that aims to improve the detection, care and treatment of congenital heart disease in babies. We train sonographers to be able to detect the signs of CHD in pregnant women; we fund research into CHD; and we spread awareness and provide support to families affected by CHD.
