So, you've read all the good bits, you're gonna get your run, jog, walk, hop, skip or jump on to 'Make the Point', now for the fine print!!
In signing up for this event, we expect for all participants to be declaring they are fit and healthy to do so, any medical conditions need to be clearly identified on your vest number along with emergency contact details.
This is an all terrain route, with moderate inclines, please check out the National Trust website https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/mendip-hills/trails/sand-point-circular-coastal-walk From the beach onto the start of the National Trust route, there is quite a large natural concrete step up from the beach to the base of the Sand Point incline, this is a big steep incline up to the point, but once you have climbed it, the stunning views more than make up for feeling a wee bit tired. There are a few other inclines on the run but we would say that this one is definitely the biggest and most challenging. There is no going up without coming down so look out for the steep and rocky descent back down towards Sand Bay (hint hint……..it's the same path that you climbed up earlier…..) so not only will you be climbing up you can also wave goodbye to the point on your way down to the homestretch back to Kewstoke Village Hall.
Whilst Make The Point is a fun run we understand that some of you have a competitive streak. So to keep it interesting we'll be adding the route as a segment on Strava, as well as a few special sections to see just who went how fast. If you don't know Strava all you need is a smart phone, head to Strava.com, create a free account. Add the free app to your phone and when you run start the app. Thats it. You'll see your time, how you compare and you'll even be able to try the route again whenever you like and the app will tell you how your time compares.
A bit more info for you –
• There will be water from the wonderful people at Cheddar Natural Spring Water available at Kewstoke Village Hall and we will have two water stations situated along the route. However we cannot stress enough the importance of keeping yourself hydrated during the course. Please ensure you bring your own water bottles. We will be posting updates but please also ensure you keep an eye on the weather for the day and plan accordingly, I.e. Sun hat and sun cream (this is obviously our preferred weather choice for the day), or suitable clothing for rain etc.
• There is one section of the route where you will have to cross a road. Near the start of the race, we cross from Crookes Lane over onto the beach and then this crossing again near the end of the route. We will have a Marshall present here to assist you in halting traffic.
• As mentioned above, we will have Marshals present throughout the route to assist you and ensure the route is being followed.
• We have not closed off any roads/paths etc….used during the event so there may be members of the general public present along the route. Please just ensure that you are all respectful of this and why not try and get a high five as you run past.
There is a route map available on this site, so click the link and check it out. We are not serious runners, we do it to escape and switch our minds off but have to say, it truly is a beautiful route, challenging but so rewarding when you cross that finish line.
